IPL 20th Match – Live Coverage – Chennai Super Kings vs Delhi Daredevils
Watch Live Score and coverage of IPL 20th Match on this blog.
PREVIEW:
Delhi Daredevils and Chennai Super Kings have been the two most impressive teams in IPL so far. Chennai Super Kings led by their emperor with the golden touch, Dhoni, has adopted a strategy of batting the opposition out of the game and then applying pressure while bowling, under which the oppositions have invariably cracked, as shown by their unbeaten record. Delhi Daredevils, apart from the minor blip against Kings XI Punjab, have played a classy brand of cricket where their strong batting is complemented by their equally efficient bowling. With the exodus of foreign players now hitting many squads, Chennai Super Kings need to overcome the absence of Hussey, Hayden and Oram to put it past their strongest opponents yet.
Mini-Battle: Delhi’s batting mainly depends on their top three batsmen, Sehwag, Gambhir and Dhawan. With Ntini expected to play today’s game, it will be a keen tussle between the tireless fast bowler and Sehwag. If Ntini manages to take out even two of the top three, then the untested and a rather brittle middle-order could be put under pressure to restrict them to a smaller total.
Team News: Chennai now have only four foreign players left in their ranks namely Ntini, Albie Morkel, Fleming and Muralitharan. Stephen Fleming is expected to fill Hayden’s slot while Ntini and Morkel should shore up the bowling resources. The departure of Oram might actually turn out to be a blessing in disguise for Chennai Super Kings. With Ntini, Murali and Morkel in their ranks, the bowling suddenly looks much stronger. Gony’s fitness is a matter of concern for Chennai Super Kings, as he is down with fever, though he is expected to be fit for the match. Delhi Darevdevils haven’t really been affected by the departure of overseas players, with only Vettori missing who played 2 out of the 4 games. Maharoof, who has been pretty effective in stopping the runs, is a strong contender to regain his place in the squad after being replaced by Vettori in the previous game. With Karthik not doing well either behind or in front of the stumps, deVilliers might finally get a game.
Star-Watch: Dhoni, the most expensive player in IPL, has been worth every penny to the Chennai squad. His captaincy has brought calm over the young side, while his explosive batting has come to his side’s rescue whenever required. Sehwag is also due for a big score after his cracking 94 against Deccan Chargers. But the most important attraction of the match will be to see how Murali and Ntini perform in tandem.
Pitch and Weather Conditions: The conditions in Chennai are ideal for night cricket, with the sky being mostly cloudy and temperatures around 32 degrees. The humidity will be high and that might help the ball to swing around a bit. The pitch is generally expected to favor batting and it won’t come as a surprise to anyone if Dhoni elects to bat after winning the toss.
