IPL Live – IPL 16th Match Kolkata Riders vs Mumbai Indians
The Mumbai Indians will go all out today to notch their first victory of the tournament. With four straight losses, they will have to play out of their skins to win a high percentage of their remaining matches to entertain any thoughts of making it to the semi-finals. They will sorely miss the services of spinner Harbhajan Singh, who has been banned for 11 IPL matches following the slapgate incident involving Sreesanth. They will however be tested by a strong Kolkata line-up which seems to be one of the better teams in the IPL.
Mini-battle: If Sachin Tendulkar is declared fit to play this match, we could witness a great contest between him and paceman Ishant Sharma. The fast bowler, who plays for Delhi in the Ranji Trophy, could be a handful for the master batsman and should make for interesting viewing.
Team news: Sachin Tendulkar’s participation is still not a certainty. Shaun Pollock will lead the Mumbai Indians if Sachin is declared unfit. Luke Ronchi has not been among the runs so far in the IPL and could make way for South African opener Loots Bosman. Pinal Shah is likely to take his place as wicketkeeper.
Kolkata are likely to retain the same eleven, not wanting to tinker with a winning combination.
Star Watch: It’s McCullum’s last game of the IPL and he’ll be keen to go out with a bang. Sanath Jayasuriya has had a quiet series and he could well be due for a big score. If he gets going at the top, Mumbai can be assured of a big score.
Pitch and Weather Conditions: BCCI sent it’s chieft curator Daljit Singh after the track used for the last match was heavily criticized. Today’s wicket looks better with a smattering of grass on it. Despite the 8 pm start, the heat and humidity will take it’s toll on the players.
